“I believe that telling our stories, first to ourselves, and then to one another and to the world, is a revolutionary act.”

– Janet Mock –

For many LGBTQ+ people, finding a therapist who shares your lived experience can be transformative and even life changing.

The process of exploring and embracing one’s identity is an intensely personal journey. One that can be heavily defined by how supported one is as they navigate their experience. It is imperative that you find a therapist who understands you. More importantly, you deserve someone who validates your experience and affirms you every step of the way.

At Anchor Psychotherapy, Inc., we specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community, providing affirmative care to you and your loved ones, with a distinct understanding of who you are and what makes your experiences uniquely yours.

Sometimes, a person’s identity is not always the reason why they seek therapy, as it is not always the cause of internalized distress. And other times identity exploration is the only reason someone seeks therapy.

Whether you are looking for individual, couples, family or group therapy, our practice is a safe and affirming space to get you the support you deserve.

We look forward to meeting you when you’re ready!

LGBTQ+ Group Support

Affirming the identity of LGBTQ+ individuals reduces their risk of suicide by more than half, according to The National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health conducted by The Trevor Project in 2020.

Creating safe and affirming spaces for the community as well as those who might not easily understand identity difference is a crucial step toward building a more accepting and inclusive society. This is why we see the importance in facilitating groups which support both LGBTQ+ people as we as their loved ones.

LGBTQ+ Youth Process Group

The LGBTQ+ Youth Process Group is designed to provide a safe and affirming space for everyone to share, process, and connect with others through shared life experiences.  The group is designed for individuals 13-24 years of age and meets virtually, on a biweekly basis.  It follows an open discussion format, covering a wide variance in topics, including but not limited to, sexuality, gender, family issues, mental health, and acceptance.  No topic is off limits!  If you are interested in participating in the group or would like more information, please contact Thomas Blake at tblake@anchorpsychotherapy.com

Transgender Ally Support Group

The Transgender Ally Support Group has been established to support family, friends, and loved ones of transgender individuals seeking a community to support and be supported by others through their journey toward understanding and validation.  In this group we provide education, resources, and an opportunity to process and discuss a wide range of topics, including but not limited to, gender identity, gender dysphoria, pronoun usage, and transition/medical intervention.  This group meets virtually, on a biweekly basis, and alternates between psychoeducation and open discussion.  If you are interested in participating in the group or would like more information, please contact Thomas Blake at tblake@anchorpsychotherapy.com.
